Richard Anthony Tedder, age 81, born December 26, 1942, in Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2024. He was surrounded by love in his final days under the care of Caris Healthcare.
Tony was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Tedder from Bishopville, South Carolina. Many years later he met his mother, Doris Adams Wood in Greenville, SC and his sister and brothers. God blessed Tony in so many ways with both good families.
A graduate of Bishopville High School, Tony served as Valedictorian of his senior class. He furthered his education at the University of South Carolina, studying Mechanical Engineering. His career spanned over two decades, with ten years at LBC&W and twelve years at Buford Goff and Associates. He later founded Coldstream Software Solutions, where he developed innovative software for architects and engineers.
Tony shared his expertise through teaching special classes at prestigious institutions including MIT, the University of Michigan, USC, Clemson, Imperial College in London, and universities in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. He also imparted knowledge at NASA's Space Center in Florida and Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia.
A devoted member of Shandon Baptist Church, Tony actively contributed to his community by coaching basketball and football and serving as a Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over sixty years, Elizabeth Rye Tedder, and their children: Richard Norwood Tedder (Laura), Catherine Elizabeth Hahne (Erich), and Anthony Christopher Tedder (Suzanne). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Richard Sawyer Tedder, Hallie Elizabeth Tedder, Reagan Lane Tedder, Charlotte Elizabeth Hahne Alperi (Daniel), and Savannah Grace Hahne.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Dunbar Funeral Home - Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from Noon until 1:00 pm.
Pallbearers will include Richard and Tony Tedder, Al Patel, Sawyer Tedder, Kurt Hahne, and Daniel Alperi.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made Tony’s final days more comfortable. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
