COLUMBIA A memorial service for Richard Crouch Clayton, 60, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Downtown Church, 701 Whaley Street. The family will receive friends following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Clayton passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. Born in Cheraw on July 28, 1958, he was a son of the late Franklin Turner Clayton and Virginia Crouch Clayton.
He received his BA in business from the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of SAE fraternity. Richard’s #1 passion was his personal relationship with the Lord. He read the Bible every day and sent text messages of scriptures to Marnie and his girls daily to encourage them. He was an active member of the Thursday Men’s Bible Study and a member of Downtown Church.
Richard was a man’s man and was loved by all of his friends. He could frequently be found on the golf course at Forest Lake Club, but could hold his own on the sofa, curling up with his girls, guessing who would receive “the final rose”.
Surviving are his wife, Mary McMaster “Marnie” Frye Clayton; daughters, Mary Riley, Heyward and Emma; brothers, Frank Clayton and John Clayton (Alexa); sister, Rebecca Clayton; nephews, Russell Clayton (Najla) and Grant Clayton (Kaylyn); brother-in-law, Jay Frye (Kim); niece, Katie Wallace; mother-in-law, Mary McNair; father-in-law, Jerry Frye (Jayne); and all of the extended Moore and Frye families.
