COLUMBIA – Raymond E. Faucher, Major, US Army Retired, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel is assisting the family.
Mr. Faucher was born in Windsor, Vermont on June 28, 1923. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served with the 11th Tank Battalion and 10th Armored Division in WWII. As a Sargent he applied for a commission, succeeding in 1950 as a Second Lieutenant. In 1951 he served with the 3rd Infantry Division in the Korean Conflict. Later he served in various overseas service and support activities for the Army. He retired in 1965 with the rank of Major. During his military career Major Faucher was awarded several medals, including two Bronze Stars for Valor.
In 1958 in Germany after the Korean Conflict he met and married Rosemarie Paetz, a German born citizen of Banzine, Germany. Rosemarie was the great love of his life and accompanied Major Faucher on extensive travels throughout Europe and the United States before settling in Columbia in 1978. Raymond and Rosemarie enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage before her death in May 2014.
After his retirement from the military, Raymond joined the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES). He spent twenty-one years with AAFES serving in many leadership positions which included the General Manager responsible for providing retail and personal services to the Army and Air Force troops located in North Carolina, South Carolina and northeast Georgia.
Major Faucher and Rosemarie never had children but he dearly loved and will always be remembered by Daniel and Nancy Sabia of Columbia and their children, Daniel and Kristina.
