COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Peter Wolfgang Becker, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Becker was born in Munich, Germany on September 9, 1929 and died at his home in Columbia on Friday, June 8, 2018.
Peter is survived by his wife, Linda Oliver; two step-daughters, Shannon King and Amy Ramstead; son, Peter Becker, Jr.; grandson, Christopher Becker; brother, Heinar Becker; and his best friend, Gunther Holst.
Peter retired as Chairman of the History Department at the University of South Carolina, but never really stopped teaching and learning. He will be forever remembered and forever missed.
