Patrick Estes III

COLUMBIA - After an enjoyable life and professional career, Patrick H. Estes, III passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at his home in Columbia, South Carolina. His loving wife, Christine Hayward Estes, was by his side. Pat was born on October 3, 1929, in South St. Paul, Minnesota to parents Freada and Patrick H. Estes, Jr. He spent his childhood and adolescence in South St. Paul and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1952. Pat married Elizabeth “Bette” A. Klinger in 1953 in Plymouth, Indiana. Pat spent two years in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. He then joined the Dow Chemical Corporation in Midland, Michigan as a Plastics Engineer. He enjoyed many interesting opportunities with Dow Chemical, including a six year assignment in Zurich, Switzerland. Pat loved skiing, sailing and golfing and enjoyed these activities throughout his life. Pat married Christine Hayward in 1998. He leaves four sons with first wife, Bette: Todd R. (friend, Julie Haeger), Paul O. (Lori), Bruce H. (Katy), Blair D. (Amy); stepdaughter, Tara Boyer (Roger); four grandchildren, Haley A. Estes, Trevor M. Estes, Gabriel P. Estes; and stepgrandchild, Maxwell H. Boyer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. A second memorial service will be held in the spring at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, Michigan. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 810 Dutch Square Blvd., Suite 114, Columbia, SC 29210 or to a charity of one’s choice.
