Patricia “Paddy” Wylie Riley Stanley, 77, of Columbia, passed away at home on November 1, 2011, surrounded by her family. Born in Spartanburg, SC on May 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert Wylie and Margaret Lee Wilson Wylie Holmes. One of five children, she was raised in the Eau Claire community, and she graduated from Eau Claire High School. Patricia retired from South Carolina Technical Support Center after many years of service.
Patricia is survived by her second husband, Robert Norris Stanley; three daughters, Anne Riley Parnell, Happy Riley (John) McGill, and Lee Riley (Tom) Hammond; step children, Annette Darrieux (Marcel), and Charles B. Stanley (Susan); ten beloved grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was a dearly loved and devoted wife, mother, and sister; and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Her spirit of strength and love will abide in us always.
Patricia was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Riley, MD; a son-in-law, Mark S. Parnell; a cherished grandchild, Charles Thomas Hammond, III; and brother, Robert Wilson Wylie. Words cannot express our thankfulness to the staff of Heartstrings Hospice, especially Michelle and Brett DeYoung. Their sincere compassion and support were a blessing to our family.
A graveside service for Mrs. Stanley will be held at 2 o’clock, Friday, November 4, 2011, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, with The Reverend Dr. William R. Childs officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 until 1 o’clock at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
