COLUMBIA –Oscar Eargle, Jr., 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 10, 2014. Born in Upper Richland County in the Cedar Creek Community he was a son of the late Reva and Oscar Eargle, Sr., he was a WWII veteran, serving in the USAF. He retired from Civil Service at Ft. Jackson after 33 years; was a Dutch Fork Civitan; graduated with honors from USC after retiring and was an avid Gamecock fan. Oscar loved the Lord and shared his faith with others teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. He was an active member of RHBC serving in many capacities including: Deacon, RA leader, Committee member, Usher and member of the Bethel Adult Bible Fellowship Class.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty Johnson Eargle; two daughters, Linda Eargle Crain and Mary Eargle Graham; one son, O. Wayne Eargle (Melinda); granddaughters, Melanie Blackwell (Troy), and Dr. Carly Chapman (Ashton); grandsons, Jimmy Graham, Brandon Eargle, and Joshua Eargle; great granddaughters, Haley Blackwell and Emily Blackwell; one great grandson, James Blackwell; one brother, Pat Eargle (Louise); sisters, Lucille Weeks (Don), Helen Richardson, and Doris Oldham; sister-in-law, Joan Eargle; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Eargle was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bobby Eargle and Keith Eargle.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather leaving a legacy of faith and love for family. He will be greatly missed by many.
Services in Celebration of his Life will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home on Bush River Road, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Noon. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Graham, Brandon and Joshua Eargle, Ashton Chapman, Troy Blackwell and Roger Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bethel ABF Sunday School Class members. Burial will immediately follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
