Michael D. Latham

CAYCE –Michael D. Latham, 88, of Cayce, passed from this life into eternal life with his Lord on Tuesday March 4, 2014. Mr. Latham was a man that first and foremost loved the Lord and loved discussing and teaching the scriptures. He was a generous and loving father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. Mr. Latham was born in Rome, Georgia on November 6, 1925 to the late George Melvin and Allie Taft Latham. Mr. Latham served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an electrician by trade and retired from Eastman Kodak. Mr. Latham was first married to the late Betty Rhinehart until her death and was later married to Bertie White and cared for her until her death. He was most recently married to the late Thelma Steverson and cared for her until her death. He was compassionate and wonderful care giver who gave selflessly of himself.

Mr. Latham is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim White. Left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren; James, Michael, Richard, David, Amanda and Daniel; 6 grandchildren, Megan, Dylan, Naomi, D.J., Preston and Alexis. He is further survived by his two step-daughters, Deborah Curran of Alabama and Sherill S. Wessinger of Chapin; 5 step-sons, Donald White, Kenneth White, David White, Wade (Linda) Steverson of California and Al (Sandy) Steverson of Lexington; 15 step-grandchildren and 20 step- great grandchildren who loved their Poppa Mike. Mr. Latham was predeceased by his parents, brother, Alfred Latham and sister, Jane Green.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel Saturday March 8, 2014. Funeral service will be held on Sunday March 9, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mr. Latham’s grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Congaree Baptist Church, Dixiana Baptist Church, the American Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
