Mi Yong Jewell, 68, passed away on Monday July 11th peacefully at her home. She is survived by her children, Christopher (Sayuri) Jewell, Eric (Jasmine) Jewell and her grandsons Oliver, Lucas, Noah, and Hank. Born in 1954, Mi Yong immigrated to the US in 1979 after marrying her (former) husband David—a US Air Force serviceman. They lived in Korea, Germany, Japan, and many different locations across the United States, but called South Carolina home where Mi Yong worked as a successful cosmetologist. A devout Christian, she attended Columbia Korean United Methodist Church and was an active member in her church and her community. Mi Yong prided herself in giving whatever and wherever she could to those in need. She also enjoyed chatting and traveling with her friends across the country, and visiting her sister in California. She filled her time by knitting, her most recent project was hats that she brought with her to donate to fellow chemotherapy patients, taking long walks with her beloved dog Darcy, and spending time with her grandsons. Mi Yong will be missed by her church, her friends, her neighbors, her family, and Mr. Darcy deeply.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friends following the ceremony. The proceedings will be live streamed for those out of town.
