Mary M. Winston

Mary M. Winston, 93, passed away on January 21, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Millie Altman (Wendell), and grandchildren, Hayley Altman and Zan Altman (Meg). She was born on December 2, 1927, in the Dutch Fork area of Columbia, SC, the daughter of James A. Metze and Alice L. Metze. She was predeceased by her husband Julian C. Winston, her sister Doris Shealy, and her brothers, Bernard Metze, John Metze, and Kenneth Metze.

A graduate of Newberry College, she taught music in the Lake City and Lexington SC schools, as well as private piano lessons. Mary was an organist for her church and many weddings. She retired from R.L. Bryan as administrative assistant for the Printing Plant Manager. She enjoyed and was very talented in cooking, gardening, and needle working. She loved her family dearly and was a warm, kind person who spent her life helping others.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home or charity of your choice.
