Born in Columbia, SC, on February 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Raymond McCollum Littlejohn and Elizabeth Stevenson Littlejohn.
Beth was always a student and steward of the written word. She attended Randolph-Macon Women's College (Randolph College) and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1962. Beth worked several jobs before finding her place in Publications and Information for South Carolina Educational Television. Beth later worked as an Associate Editor for the American Bar Association magazine Probate & Property, as well as assisting with publications for the South Carolina Bar Association. Later still, she worked in Medical Transcription for Lexington Medical Center and several other transcription companies.
Throughout life, Beth enjoyed attending antique auctions and going to curio shops, often trading, buying, and selling antiques and niche collectibles, even in pre-Internet days, when contact was made by snail mail and printed newsletters, and payment was by written check or printed money order.
Her great joy in life was as an artist, specializing in oil paintings for many years, dabbling in pastels and watercolors, and later moving to collages and mixed media works. Beth took pride in her skills, and derived a great deal of enjoyment from her artwork. Beth was a staunch Democrat and proud atheist, and loved to read and travel.
Surviving are her daughter, Lauren Littlejohn Truesdale (husband Thomas Truesdale); grandchildren Alexandra Truesdale, Benjamin Truesdale, Christopher Truesdale, and Oliver Truesdale; brother Raymond McCollum Littlejohn Jr.; and her two cats, Janie and Lulu.
Beth is also mourned by extended family, Steven Littlejohn, Sandra Sullivan, and Michael Littlejohn; Jim Hodges, Andrew Hodges, John Hodges, and Susan Scott; close friends, Elleanor Crown, Eve M. Stacey, Carol Ryan, Michele Reep, and Beth Crawford; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and many other friends, fellow artists, and bibliophiles.
Beth specifically requested that no funeral service be held following her demise.
A Celebration of Remembrance will be held at a later time, yet to be determined.
