Marvin Bienstock

COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Marvin Lionel Bienstock, 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Tree of Life Congregation. Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Bienstock died Saturday, January 10, 2015. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late Samuel Bienstock and Jenny Lamson Bienstock. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. He served as an Executive Director in Jewish communities across the country. Mr. Bienstock was a woodworker, photographer, musician and a pun master. He was a member of Campfire Singers, Carolina Crooners, ROMEOs, OFRA, and the Columbia Camera Club. Surviving are his wife, Gail; daughters, Darcy Creaturo (Dave), Jyl Safier (Tim); son, Jordan Bienstock (Jennifer); grandchildren, Taylor, Jennifer, Ben, Leah, David, Jacob and Hadley. He was predeceased by a sister, Florence Plotkin.
