COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Lucille Powell Carter, 73, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 in New Hope Church Cemetery, 719 North New Hope Road, Johnsonville, SC 29555. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Carter, widow of James C. Carter, Sr., died Monday, April 10, 2017. Born on January 29, 1944 in Asheville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Gen. James Napoleon Powell and Mollie Elizabeth Eaddy Powell. Lucille was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a warm, caring and compassionate person with a great love for her family. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and avid gardener. Surviving are her children, Denease Crummie (Freddie), Melissa Adornetto Clark, James C. Carter, Jr. (Lucy Borges), and David M. Carter; grandchildren, Lakin, Arielle, Emilee, Chase, Jacob, and Daniel; brother, Richard I. Powell, Sr. (Jeanette); nieces, nephews, and cousins, and extended Carter and Powell family; special friends, Barbara, Linda, Tanesha, Ernestine, and Bill. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
