Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday December 19, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home-Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the service at the funeral home and a reception will be held following the service. A private family burial will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
A native of Columbia, SC, she was born September 30, 1936 to Lizzie Louise Coker and Jason Eargle Proctor. Lou Anne treasured her family and made friends wherever she went. She helped many people in need and had a very generous heart. Lou Anne worked for Bellsouth and AT&T, first as an operator and later in several other capacities. She retired from the telephone company after 35 years of service.
Lou Anne was a member of many quilting guilds over the years, including Devine Quilters, Quilters of South Carolina, South Carolina Longarm Quilters, and Logan Lap Quilters of Metropolitan Columbia. She was instrumental in founding the Berry Patchers Quilt Guild in Newberry, South Carolina. She was an outstanding quilter and won many ribbons wherever she entered competitions. Lou Anne loved sharing her quilting talents with others and made quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as for friends and other family members.
Lou Anne loved visiting family and friends and seemingly knew all the backroads in South Carolina. A trip through the countryside with her was always an adventure.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers; Eargle Clark Proctor, Jason Eargle Proctor, a son, Roger Charles Byars and her husband of 28 years, William C. Byars.
Lou Anne’s daughter, Carol Ann Mercer (Rick) of Prosperity, SC passed away on December 16 of this year, one day after Lou Anne.
Survivors are her sister, Kay Wise, a son, William C. Byars, Jr. (Deanie) of Prosperity, SC, a daughter, Laura E. Lindler (Kris) of Irmo, SC, seven grandchildren; Elizabeth Warner (Stacey), Richard Mercer (Angela), Chasity Hamilton (Richard), Kendrall Taylor (Todd), Dawn Bouknight (Brad), Amy Raymond (Tim), Ashley Shay (Ryan), twenty one great-grandchildren; four nieces; Janet Blanchard, Tammy Warren, Cindy Sepulveda, Laura Marsh, and a nephew Steve Wise.
