COLUMBIA – Lodd was born on November 24, 1935 in the Hollywood Community of Saluda County. He was the son of Gardo Z. and Velma Rushton Havird. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lacy P. Havird, and his beloved daughter, Melodie Lorraine Havird.
Lodd was employed by the YMCA for 35 years as a massage therapist. He was the Handicapped Employee of the Year in 1977 for the City of Columbia. He always said the best part of his job was the leaders, politicians, and business men of Columbia whom he met during his employment. Many of them he counted as friends.
Lodd had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and always had at least one in the household at all times. After his retirement, he moved downtown to Elmwood Park. He could often be seen roaming the historic streets with his cherished Chow Chow Misty at his side. She always brought him home safely.
Lodd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Rogers Havird of the home and his latest and best buddy, Winnie. He is also survived by his best friend, Joe Norris.
At Lodd’s request, there will be no services. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
