“Laura Jo” to her family and closest friends was a loved daughter, sister, wife, aunt and grand aunt. She cared deeply for her family and extended family and always looked forward to family gatherings. Laura especially enjoyed recalling the many funny childhood stories involving her three older brothers and various cousins.
Laura was also a talented singer and pianist. From an early age, she played piano and was taught first by her mother, Glenda. As she attended Wade Hampton High School, the choral department encouraged Laura’s vocal talents, inviting her to sing in the Wade Hampton Chorus and later highlighted in the small group “The Lemon Sisters”.
After high school, Laura was accepted into the Honors College at the University of South Carolina and attended the university in Columbia. While living and working in Columbia after college, she met and married the love of her life, Rusty Kelley. Laura and Rusty were avid Gamecock fans and had a close group of lifelong friends.
Laura is survived by her mother Glenda and brothers, John Vernon Hunter III of Honea Path, SC, Thomas Andrew Hunter (Laurie) of Easley, SC, and Clyde Harris Hunter (Jan) of Birmingham, AL. She also leaves behind six nieces and nephews: Ross Hunter, Harris Hunter, Mary Claire McDougald, Elliott Grace Hunter, Joe Kelley, and Molly Johnson.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Russell Austin Kelley and her father, John Vernon Hunter Jr.
