Kevin Lawrie Harmon, 36, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born on February 25th, 1987 in Anchorage, Alaska to Rodney Joe Harmon and Karen Rene Wilkinson Harmon.
Kevin graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, South Carolina in 2006 and went on to become head of the IT Division of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. He was so proud to be a State Employee of South Carolina. He was a huge Carolina Gamecocks fan and loved being by the water – Garden City Beach and Lake Murray were his favorite places.
Kevin was always eager to learn new things. He was honorary Chief Mechanic for the Johnsons. He would fix anything – boats, computers, cars, the list goes on. He especially loved his dog, Tucker, and Tucker loved Kevin. Kevin would often bring Tucker to the beach, where he would throw tennis balls for Tucker to retrieve. Often times, Kevin would “accidentally” throw a tennis ball in the direction of a pretty girl, where she would soon engage in throwing a ball and petting Tucker. Tucker was always by his side, happy to go on all of Kevin’s adventures.
Kevin’s gift for gab and his ability to make friends jokingly earned him the title of “The Mayor of Garden City Beach!” He was the life of the party! He was a bright light to everyone and always ready to lend a helping hand. Kevin never met a stranger. His infectious smile and sense of humor made people feel comfortable when he approached them. His quick wit, bright smile, and laugh will be greatly missed by mom, dad, brothers, sister and all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his brother, David Joe Harmon (Riley) and their son, Landon Joe Harmon; brother, Stephen Rodney Harmon (Kara) and their children, Ella Claire and Easton Jack Harmon; sister, Tressie Rene Harmon Derrick (Danny) and their daughters, Adley Rene and Kinley Rebecca Derrick; brother, Aaron Jacob Harmon; uncle, Jerry Michael Harmon and his daughter, Tina Marie Harmon; aunt, Brenda Gayle Harmon Otto (Craig) and their children, Ashley Otto Lewis and Joshua Otto; cousins, Karen and Megan Harmon; grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Nickens Neff; uncle, Gerry Franklin Wilkinson (Carrie) and their children, Paty Wilkinson, Stormy Wilkinson Garcia, Dallas Wilkinson O’Neill, Faith Wilkinson, Elizabeth Wilkinson and Gerry Franklin Wilkinson, Jr.; aunt, Norma Jane Wilkinson McNally (Rick) and their children, Jennifer Wilkinson, Matthew Williams, and Victoria Wilkinson; uncle, Larry Wayne Neff (Crystal) and their children, Logan and Lybbi Neff; and uncle, Randy Thomas Neff (Francine), and their daughter, Kathlene Neff.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lawrie Harbot Harmon; grandmother, Delsie Faye Williams Harmon; uncle, Troy William Harmon; and grandfather, Jerry Franklin Wilkinson.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Northside Baptist Church, 4347 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM.
