A Memorial Service for Joseph Edward Daniels, 89, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021, at Shandon Baptist Church, with Reverend Barry Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. A private family inurnment featuring military honors will take place in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Daniels passed away Monday, December 13, 2021. A native of Montgomery, West Virginia, Joseph was born May 11, 1932 one of eight children to Sam and Cecil Haymaker Daniels. Mr. Daniels was a graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology, a recipient of a Master’s Degree from Marshall University and attended the University of South Carolina for doctoral studies. Joe served his country proudly in the United States Army Fort Jackson Band Detachment USATC and throughout his life kept his patriotic spirit by honoring over 600 WWII veterans as a trumpeter at various ceremonies. Music was his lifelong passion; he taught band and chorus in West Virginia, Ohio, and chorus at Dent Jr. High and retired from Spring Valley High School. Joe was a devoted member of Shandon Baptist Church serving as Interim Minister of Music, a former deacon, choir leader, Youth Church Training Leader and in later years was on the Facilities Staff. He was a man of honor, humility, and a lover of poetry. Most importantly, he adored his family and wife; they were the joy of his life.
In addition to his parents and seven siblings, he was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Winter. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ada L. Daniels, a daughter, Barbara Eisenhower (George), a son, Mark Daniels (Lisa), son-in-law, Steve Winter, seven grandchildren, Keith Winter, Katherine Winter Coleman, Kelly Eisenhower Cyr, Keri Eisenhower Rikard, Bryan Daniels, Austin Daniels and Allison Daniels, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
