COLUMBIA – John Charles Quigley, 69, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017. A memorial service for Mr. Quigley will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. A reception with refreshments will follow the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel is assisting the family. Born in Taunton, Mass on December 16, 1947, he was a son of the late John Joseph and Rose Virginia Quigley. He attended Bishop Stang High School in New Bedford, Mass. and graduated from St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine. He worked for Wang Laboratories in Lowell, Mass. for many years and most recently retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in Columbia in the IT Department. John was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and was very active with teaching Sunday School and attending Bible Studies. He was a regular donor of platelets at the American Red Cross. John had a great love for animals and he was active in local pet rescue and rescue transport, where he was a respected and valuable volunteer. He was a sports enthusiast who loved to play golf. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox and South Carolina college sports. He loved his family and had many loving friends whom he enjoyed spending time with, watching movies, attending concerts, sharing a meal, catching a game or traveling together. He could tell a story that brought you into it, had an infectious laugh, and was kind and generous to all he met. He is survived by his first wife, Shirley Hale Quigley; their daughter, Melissa Ann Zylich and husband, Michael James Zylich and four loving grandchildren, Mikayla, Nathan, Meghan and Haley of East Sandwich, Mass; siblings, Joanne Duffy of Duxbury, Mass.; Diane Teed and husband, Richard of Newburyport, Mass. and Michael Quigley and wife Janis of North Andover, Mass and many nieces and nephews. His infant daughter, Janine Michelle, son Matthew Emerson and second wife, Valerie Fontanesi Quigley preceded him in death.
