John Aubrey Parrott

WEST COLUMBIA - John Aubrey Parrott died at Laurel Crest on Monday, March 17, 2014. Born January 10, 1929 in Washington, D.C. and reared on Broad Street in Falls Church, Virginia. He spent much of his youth on his grandfather's farm (at Bailey's Crossroads) which is now a museum. His parents were William Talley and Lillian Clark Parrott. He attended Western High School in Washington, D.C. and joined the Army after graduation. Upon his honorable discharge as a Corporal in the artillery, he graduated from George Washington University where he was a Sigma Nu. While there he met his wife, Lou Ann. They were married for 64 years. His first job was at Modern Design in Washington, D.C. He then moved to Atlanta where he worked for Alan L. Ferry Designers, followed by a stint with John Portman Architects. He then moved the family to Columbia and worked for Columbia Office Supply Company. In his spare time he was a voracious reader, baseball spectator, jazz enthusiast and tennis player.

He was the father of six children: Dr. John Talley Parrott, his wife Krista and children, Lillian, Maddy and Jack, Dr. James Hunter Parrott, his wife Bonnie and daughters, Megan and Mackenzie, Thomas Blaise Parrott and wife Karri, Dr. Robin Parrott and daughters Jennifer and Samantha Naulty, Angela Parrott, Esq. and husband Rick Deatsch, Suzy Paige Madden, her husband Jamey and sons McGregor and Emmett. He is survived by his brother William W. Parrott and wife Jan, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lee Edmonds and his favorite dog, Flossie.

There will be a private celebration of Aubrey's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to his favorite charities: Animal Protection League, Hopkins, SC and Richland Library Friends, Columbia, SC.
