John Allen Hancock, III, 79, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on June 16, 2024, in the presence of family. He was born in Fresno, California on January 14, 1945. A devoted and dedicated husband and father, John possessed unique talent for diagnosing and creatively solving difficult technical and mechanical problems, both in his professional work and on many occasions while assisting his family and his many friends.
John honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970. During his military service, he exemplified highly disciplined commitment to his unit and to his country. While in service, he met his future wife, Kazuko, during his tour in Okinawa.
In his civilian life, John had a long and productive career as a technical manager at SCETV Network. Additionally, he spent several years working innovatively in a private business, where he designed and developed customized, interactive audiovisual systems for numerous schools and colleges.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kazuko, and his two children, John Allen Hancock IV, Katharine (Andy Mikula), and step-daughter Hitomi Moore (James). He is also survived by his brother, Louie R. Hancock (wife Marie), niece, Angela Hancock (husband Matt Horton), and grandnieces Lyra and Stella.
John was predeceased by his father, John Allen Hancock, Jr., and his mother, Gertrude Reckling Hancock, both of Columbia.

A visitation for John will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, 3926 Devine St, Columbia, South Carolina 29205.
