COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Joel Herman Hiller, 91, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Burial with full military honors will be held in Ridgecrest Cemetery, Batesburg, SC at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Hiller passed away on July 29, 2024. Born in Newberry, SC, he was a son of the late Leland Berley Hiller and Evelyn G. Boozer Hiller. He attended Sumter Tech, now Central Carolina Technical College.
Joel retired from the US Air Force as a Tech Sergeant and served during Vietnam in 1967-1968. During his civil service at Fort Jackson, he worked in the medical records department at Moncrief Army Hospital. He was a member of Disabled American Vets, Vietnam Veterans Association, and Air Force Chapter 330.
Joel was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where he served as leader of the Sunday School class and visited homebound members to serve communion.
He was an avid Gamecock baseball fan and also enjoyed doing yard work.
Surviving are his daughter, Dawn Wanda Hiller of Columbia, SC; brothers, Richard Leland Hiller of Gray Court, SC and Arnold D. Hiller (Dinah) of Newberry, SC; one niece; and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bobbie Jean Rankin Hiller; daughter, Hermie Jean Hiller; and sister-in-law, Vivian Hiller.
