Janet Thain Lane

COLUMBIA – Janet Thain Lane, 90, of Columbia, passed into God’s loving and eternal care on Friday, February 17, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Mark A. and Ruth Guyon Thain and the wife of Robert Paul Lane. She was a graduate of Dreher High School.

Janet and her family lived in Atlanta, Ga. for thirty years. She was active in many organizations. Upon their return to Columbia, Janet and Robert became members of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Janet was an active member of the Women’s Circles 3 and 5. She was also a member of the Columbia Garden Club and Town and Country Garden Club.

Janet enjoyed decorating and entertaining. Her love of gardening and flowers brought her many happy hours. She led a very full life, but most important was her love of her family.

Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth Lane Powers (Gregg), and grandchildren, Robert (Abby), Lane, and Jake Powers of Greenville, SC; her nieces, Lee Embler (Paul), Caroline Jenkins (Mike) and Jill King; her nephews, Mark Archer and Pierson Archer as well as many great nieces and nephews. Also close to her heart was Samuel Caldwell (Susan) and cousins of NC.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was predeceased by her son, Robert Michael Lane, her sisters, Betty Thain Dial, Elinor Thain Archer, and Frances Thain Sauls, and niece, Betsy Dial Caldwell.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, where she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband of 50 years. Service will be conducted by her great nephew the Rev. A. Judson King and the Rev. Dr. Ellen Skidmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 Trenholm Rd, Columbia, SC 29206 or any other organization of your choice.
