COLUMBIA – James R. Greenwood, 87, of Columbia, SC, died on Friday, October 19, 2012. Born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Louis and Rose Greenwood of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. After graduation from McDonald Memorial High School in Chippewa Falls, he enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and saw action in the Pacific Theater. After WWII, he later transferred to the US Army and retired after 24 years of combined military service. His last assignment was at Fort Jackson, SC. He then worked at Fort Jackson Federal Credit Union for 22 years.
He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of 62 years, Shirley A. Greenwood; his children, James R. Greenwood, Jr. (Cheryl) of Rapid City SD, Mark Louis Greenwood (Pat) of Blythewood, SC, Patrick K. Greenwood (Bonnie) of Columbia, SC, Sue E. Greenwood Biggerstaff (Scott) of Columbia, SC and Leslie K. Greenwood Galindo (Clayton) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, James R. Greenwood, III, Anthony Greenwood, Janet Hargrove, Cynthia Regan, Mark Greenwood, Jr., John P. Greenwood, Michael Greenwood, Breanna Greenwood, David Greenwood, Kristin Greenwood, Kaytlin Greenwood, Drew Fowler, Patrick Fowler, Lauren Biggerstaff, Carson Brown, Megan Galindo and Addison Galindo, great grandchildren, Mark Hargrove, Nathan Hargrove, James R.
Greenwood, IV. Also surviving are his sisters, Shirley Rasmus, Rosemary McCarthy, and Janice Gubbard, all of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel located at 5400 Bush River Road in Columbia, SC.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Transfiguration Catholic Church located at 9720 Wilson Boulevard, Blythewood, SC 29016.
Burial will be at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in James Greenwood’s memory be made to the Transfiguration Catholic Church, 9720 Wilson Boulevard, Blythewood, SC 29016.
The family would like to thank Palmetto Richland Hospital, Palmetto Health Hospice and Dr. Phillip Baldwin for their care, support and thoughtfulness given to our father.
