A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, at Dunbar Funeral Home - Devine Street Chapel with Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm.
Bubba was born June 1, 1950, in Union County to Jasper Vance and Helen Hart Devenny. He was a welder by trade and throughout the years worked for Kline Iron and Steel, Owens Steel and for Martin Marietta where he retired.
A lifelong car enthusiast, from a young age he enjoyed tinkering with model cars. In high school he worked for Derrick’s Gulf Station on Main Street where he began to learn how to work on cars and motorcycles. He was most passionate about classic cars and riding motorcycles in the mountains especially the Tail of the Dragon in the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was a brother of Blythewood Lodge #395. James was friends with everyone and will be remembered as a Gentle Giant.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister; Donna Walker and her husband Lenoard, his favorite niece; Hope Walker Rossi and husband Chris. He also leaves behind a host of friends and extended family that lovingly called him “Big Jim”.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dunbarfuneralhomedevine.com for the Devenny family.
