Jackie was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. Later, she moved to Boston, MA where she met Alan Hatch and they were married on her 21st birthday. After a few years, they moved to Mogadore, Ohio for Alan’s work, and later settled in Columbia, SC. Jackie was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. As her children grew up, she took a job with Huckaby and Associates, a local insurance agency, from which she ultimately retired.
She had a love for gardening and being outdoors, was an avid tennis player, and loved playing bridge with Alan and friends. In their retirement years, Jackie and Alan traveled to many places around the country in their RV. They also traveled though Ireland, sharing their adventures through postcards and photos.
Jackie had a huge heart and always put others first. Friends and family were important parts of her life. She always had a story to tell, always with a sparkle in her eyes. Some of the best conversations with her were on the back porch with a glass of wine.
Jackie is survived by her children, Karen (Jeff) Nates, Craig (Janet) Hatch, and Laura (JR) Dill; grandchildren, Brook (Byron) McCraw, Stuart (Kayla) Nates, Connor (Hannah) Dill, Brian Hatch, Hart Dill, and Hannah Nates, along with great grandchildren, Tanner McCraw, Anniston McCraw, and Amelia Nates. She is predeceased by her husband Alan Hatch and son Roger Hatch.
A memorial service will be held at Ashland United Methodist Church located at 2600 Ashland Rd, Columbia, SC 29210 on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 3:00 in the afternoon. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall.
