COLUMBIA Memorial service for Jacob West Summers IV, 23, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, with entombment in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at their residence from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 and also following the service. Members of the Kappa Alpha Order and members of the Boy Scouts of America will be honorary pallbearers. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. West died Sunday, November 15, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Jacob West Summers III and Elizabeth Edgerton Summers. A graduate of Heathwood Hall, he was a second semester senior at Wofford College. He was in the Kappa Alpha Order and was an Eagle Scout. He attended Boys State and served as an acolyte at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He loved to watch sports, ice hockey in particular, and was a gifted high school runner, earning SCISA region and state awards for Cross Country and Track. West loved politics and debate, and had a great way with people. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and great friend, Robert Pierce Summers of Columbia; maternal grandparents, Robert Alson and Elizabeth Snite Edgerton of Rock Hill; paternal grandparents, Jacob West Summers Jr. and Freda Stokes Summers of Orangeburg; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends.
