Jack Berkley Herndon, Sr, 91, died November 26, 2022. Born in Winnsboro, SC, he was the son of the late George W and Bertha Bennett Herndon. He was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia. He is survived by a brother Jeff Herndon, his children Cathy Monts, Jack Herndon, Jr, Patricia Webb (Bryan) and Tom Herndon (Renee); grandchildren Sam Webb (Abbey), Jacky Monts, Molly White (Cameron), Susan Powell (James), Zachary O’Brien, Emma Fink (Ryan), Drew Herndon, and Noah McFarland and great grandchildren; Connor, Maddie, Cooper, Charlotte, Jeremiah and the anticipated arrival of baby Fink. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Mildred Bell Herndon and a sister, Marianne Spalinger.
Jack was a graduate of Mt. Zion High School in Winnsboro. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina. Jack retired from South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation.
He married the love of his life after meeting her on a blind date. Jack and Mickey were married for 64 years prior to her death. She was always on the highest pedestal in his eyes. He was an avid Gamecock fan, and a true Southern Gentleman.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday December 6, 2022 at Northeast Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church prior to the service.
