COLUMBIA – Mayo Irene Walker, 77, died Monday, January 17, 2022 at home. Born in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Henry William Walker, Sr. and Mayo Geddings Walker. A graduate of Lower Richland High School and Winthrop College, she retired from the State of South Carolina. Irene played the organ for chapel services at McEntire Air National Guard Base for 40 plus years and also at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of Lebanon UMC.
Surviving are her sister, Jeannie Walker of Columbia, SC; her brother, Ricky Walker (Debirah) of Hopkins, SC; nieces and nephews, Shannon Walker, Chip Walker (Elizabeth), C.J. Walker, Hunter Lewter, Savannah Lewter, Cheyenne Griggs, Austin Griggs, Graham Walker, Allie Brogan (Jay), Lisa White (Tim), and Ben Raynsford; and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Johnny Walker and Billy Walker.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at Lebanon United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
