Columbia: A celebration of life for Irene K. Elkins, 84, of Columbia, will be held at 12 o’clock, Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Spring Valley Baptist Church officiated by The Rev. Dr. Robert Winburn. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Spring Valley Baptist Church, 91 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223 or to the Gideon’s International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
Mrs. Elkins died Saturday, May 19, 2012. Born in Buffalo, SC, on July 2, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Eddie Leroy Kingsmore and Annie Lou Stapleton Kingsmore.
She was a dedicated member of Spring Valley Baptist Church and the Prayer and Praise Sunday School class. She was a warrior for Christ and anyone who met her knew it. Throughout her years of service to the church, she taught young adult and senior adult Sunday School classes, sang in the worship and senior adult choirs, and coordinated a church program, Agape friends, that ministered to shut-ins and nursing homes.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Anne (Tim) Blackwell of Columbia; son, Gary S. (Paula) Elkins of Toccoa Falls; grandchildren, Christine (Glenn) Broome, Tim (Kay) Blackwell, Mark (Jackie) Elkins, and Jeremy Elkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted.L. Elkins; sister, Ruby Elizabeth Avery; and brother, Bobby Maurice Kingsmore.
