Henry Frank Goodwin, Jr., 85, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023. He was the son of the late Henry Frank and Lillie Hilliard Goodwin. He was born February 6, 1938, and grew up in Chesterfield, South Carolina.
He entered the United States Army on June 7, 1956, where he served in virtually every NCO leadership position to include seven years as a First Sergeant and 17 years as a Command Sergeant Major. He served as the TRADOC Command Sergeant Major from October 1987 until his retirement in May 1991. During his 35 years, he served overseas in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam.
His many awards and decorations include Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Legion of Merit, two awards of the Bronze Star, three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, three awards of the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement medal as well as numerous campaign and service medals. He earned his Master’s Degree at Coker College and Bachelor of Science at The University of South Carolina.
He is survived by his daughters Ginger Schuman and Sandra Morgan (Tony), brother Harold Goodwin, granddaughter Megan Morgan, grandson Jason Sheffield (Heather) great granddaughter McKenzie as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Wilkes Goodwin, brother Curtis Goodwin, and sisters Vera Goodwin Kimrey and Blanche Goodwin Allen.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
