COLUMBIA - Glen S. Parsons, 75, passed peacefully to his heavenly home Friday July 5, 2013. He was born May 28, 1938 in Charleston, SC to the late Weldon and Fannie Belle Parsons.
He graduated from St. Andrews High School in Charleston before attending Georgia Tech where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he served as 1st LT in the US Army and worked for Bell South before joining Square D Company where he retired in 1995. Glen was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, choir member and in various other church ministries. He faithfully served his community including Meals on Wheels and the St. Andrews Rotary club where he was a founding member. His greatest joy in life, loving and serving his family, flowed from his exuberant gratitude to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Glen’s life was full, marked by generosity and loving others deeply as he was deeply loved.
Glen was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Nina Parsons. He is survived by his sister, Millicent Sofley and husband, Carl of Cary, NC, sister-in-law, Gerrie Parsons; daughters, Ginger Hiott and husband, Rev. Charlton of Frisco, TX, Sheri Specht and husband, Perry of Irmo, Stacey Fletcher and husband, Jeff of Irmo; son, Rev. Joey Parsons, Pastor of Fields of Grace Presbyterian Church of Loveland, CO and wife, Fran; 11 grandchildren, Tyler and Emily Hiott, Nathan, Blakely and Sami Specht, Grayson and Allie Fletcher and Jordan, Hannah, Abigail and Katie Parsons.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to service. A private graveside service will be held at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made for Fields of Grace Presbyterian, payable and mailed to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
