Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday August 18, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with burial and military honors to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mike was born December 28, 1942 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late George and Anna Egan. He was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1964. Mike served his country proudly from 1964- 1967, achieving the rank of SP5. He served in Vietnam in 1965-1966 with The 1st Cavalry Division, D Company, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion as a Crew Chief/ Door Gunner during the Ia Drang Valley Campaign. He was a proud Vietnam veteran who received many medals and awards including a Purple Heart. Mike was also a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal from the Governor of his home state of New Jersey.
Mike was a life member of VFW Post 6740 Lake Murray, Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 402 Columbia, Paralyzed Veterans of America southeastern Chapter, Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Association, The 1st Cavalry Division Association. He was also a member of Voiture 40 & 8 Chapter 1211, Cayce Memorial American Legion Post 130 where he served as a former Chaplain and 1st Vice Commander and Lexington County Veterans Group.
Mike will be remembered as a man who truly loved his family and his country. He was a loyal friend and made friends wherever he would go because he never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Egan, three daughter; Elizabeth Pughe (Dave) of NY, Heather Myroup (Dave) of FL, Colleen Wells (Joey) of ARK, a step-son; Donald Trojan of SC, twelve grandchildren; Dylan and Zachary Pughe of NY, Brayden and Tess Myroup of FL, Kaitlin Williamson (Colby), Kinley Nix (Devin), Kirsten Bennett (Zach), Justin, Norah, Madison and Reese Porterfield and James Wells all of AR, a great-granddaughter; Magnolia Grace Williamson of AR, a sister; Judy Sherman of FL, a niece; Maureen Conner of FL and a nephew; Kevin Conner of CO.
