Freida Byrd Milne

West Columbia – A worship service celebrating the life of Freida Byrd Milne will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Columbia. Burial will be private. Freida left this earth on Thursday, January 12, 2017 to move to her permanent home in Heaven at the invitation of her personal Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Freida is the daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Willie Mae Byrd. She is also preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Henry Ludwig “Lud” Milne, Jr.; her precious son, Henry Ludwig “Rick” Milne, III; and her enthusiastic sister-in-law, Anne Milne Kirk. Freida graduated from Brookland Cayce High School and from the University of South Carolina. Freida was strong and courageous, fiercely independent, bold, and outspoken. With all of these strengths, her greatest joy was found in selfless service. She preferred the “behind-the-scene” role. Freida loved the Lord and invested her life at First Baptist Church. She had a great memory for names and persistently used her gifts of hospitality, organization and exhortation to build the church. Through the years, she served in the children’s and youth ministry, with college students, with those early in their marriages, and with the Bible Survey Class. She loved life and lived all 87 years fully. She was a fabulous wife and mother. She loved her kids and took her job of building the right stuff into them very seriously. She made each day a fun adventure. She was constantly teaching and made learning a family passion. She mastered many fields, she was without guile, and she told you exactly what she thought on any and every issue! Surviving are her children, Lisa Milne of Houston, Tx., Ron Milne (Elizabeth) of Temple, Tx., Brent Milne (Krista) of Boulder, Colorado, daughter-in-law, Teresa Milne of Chapin; and her nephew whom she counted as her son Clifton (Sue) Kirk of Blythewood; her grandchildren and “great-grands,” Stephen (Meg) Milne with Henry, Virginia, and Sallie James; Philip (Mary Ann) Milne with Daniel and May; Caleb (Sarah Jane) Milne; Aaron Milne; Leanne Milne; Christina Milne; her brother, Charles (Nancy) Byrd with nieces Susan (Rob) Lewis with Matthew, Hannah, and Charlotte; and Sharon (Steve) Blackwell with Amanda, Chad, Katie, and Savannah Grace; her sister-in-law, Faye (Bob) Boyd with children Lynn (Harry Vann) Boyd & Alan (Andrea) Boyd with Sasha and Rylle; her “considered” grandchildren, Carrie Montgomery with Alice; Eddie (Loren) Kirk with Jackson, Jagger and Jett; and Lee (Becky) Kirk with “Chipper” and Camden.
