September 26, 1916 – January 5, 2018 COLUMBIA - While she was a devoted daughter, loving sister and magical aunt, there are simply no words to adequately describe Freda—she meant so much to so many. The daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Freda took great pride in her heritage, an integral component of which was her steadfast faith. A devout Catholic, she was a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph parish. Whether through countless games of Basra with her nieces and nephews or regaling them with stories of her childhood in Georgetown, she imparted the importance of family and faith on multiple generations. A Southern lady in every sense of the word, through her limitless hospitality, grace and charm, Freda spread joy everywhere she lived—from her Georgetown youth to her treasured time in Charleston (where she enjoyed a career in civil service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) to a retirement in Beaufort and Columbia. Although she loved each of these places, she will be laid to rest in Greeleyville, which held a special spot in her heart. An avid reader (and mystery lover) and bridge player, her true joy was her family. No matter their age or the distance involved, every niece and nephew relished a visit with Aunt Freda and she delighted in every accomplishment or adventure they shared. Through her patience, wit, generosity, endless cheerfulness and radiant smile, she touched the lives of countless family and friends and has left each with indelible memories. While we are heartbroken to lose her, we are comforted in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved parents, Shickory and Sarah Joseph, as well as her sisters, Annie Joseph, Josephine Joseph and Rose Keach. She is survived by her sister, Janette J. Gleaton (Columbia); her brother, Dr. Arthur A. Joseph (Dorothy) (Columbia); and her adoring nieces and nephews and many friends. The world is a little less colorful without her. She will be always loved and forever missed. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a burial following at 2:00 p.m. in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville, S.C. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with a visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Please sign the online guestbook at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
