COLUMBIA - Frank Albert Floyd, Jr. passed away on February 26, 2024. His Celebration of Life Service will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 2 pm at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive friends before the service at 1 pm at the church. Interment will be private.
Mr. Floyd was born in Florence, SC on December 23, 1929 to the late Alline Campbell Floyd and Frank Albert Floyd, Sr. He graduated from Florence High School in 1946, the University of South Carolina in 1950 with a double major in Chemistry and Psychology, and graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC with a major in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations. He also attended Trinity College in Texas and the University of Denver. While at UNC graduate school he was offered an Instructorship in Economic Statistics in 1951, but instead received a call to active duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force which he served in until 1954.
Following completion of his service in the USAF, he began his business career with Milliken Textile Group at Excelsior Mills in Union, SC, where he held numerous positions: Chief - Industrial Engineering, Chief Chemist, Production Planning Manager, and Manager for Excelsior and Rutherford Mills. He resigned from Milliken in 1962 and moved to Columbia, SC to start his own businesses: Frank A. Floyd Company, and Computer Accounting Corporation as a consultant for small businesses. He later became active in real estate and formed Commercial & Investment Realty Inc. and began developing and acquiring numerous apartment complexes. In 1986 he created Intermark Management Corporation to manage various apartment and condominium communities in the Southeast.
He was active in many organizations, including Sigma Nu fraternity where he served as President at USC and UNC, President of the Union, SC Kiwanis Club, Spring Valley Country Club, Debordieu Club, First Citizens Bank Advisory Board, Central Carolina Community Foundation Board, USC and UNC Alumni Associations, and Elder Emeritus and Trustee for Northeast Presbyterian Church.
While he was successful in his various business interests, what he cherished the most was his time with his family and with Northeast Presbyterian Church, both of which he loved dearly. He helped Northeast Presbyterian grow by serving as financing coordinator and providing fund raising and financing advice in assisting to create its campus and the formation of its cemetery. He also provided financial counseling to other churches around the country. He was known for his generosity and philanthropy and was especially supportive of missionary outreach in many places across the world.
He is survived by son, Frank Albert Floyd, III (Nora); daughters, Lynn Floyd Wright and Frances Floyd Stuckey (Mark); 7 grandchildren: Megan Floyd Cauthen (Matt), Caitlin Floyd Neumann (Lee), Caroline Stuckey Mills (William), Elizabeth Stuckey Delgado (Blaze), Cam Stuckey, Katherine Wright, Christopher Wright; and 4 great-grandchildren: Finn Cauthen, Townes Cauthen, Gray Delgado, and Perkins Mills. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, Joye VanKeuren Floyd, his loving wife of 64 years, his sister, Jean Floyd Lee and her husband, Jerry Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church or the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
