Frances Smith Boswell

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Frances Jeanette Smith Boswell, 94, died, Thursday, March 8, 2018. She was born on November 29, 1923 in Columbia, S.C. to the late Judge Judson Henry Smith and Esther Amanda McManus Smith. She was the widow of the late retired Marine Lt. Col. Charles Evans Boswell, Jr. Mrs. Boswell is the last member of her immediate family of two daughters. She and her sister, the late Esther Marguerite Smith Woollen, were very close.

Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by two sons, Judson Michael Boswell, who died February 3, 2010 at the age of 59 and Charles Evans Boswell III, who died September 12, 2017 at the age of 71.

Mrs. Boswell is survived by her daughter-in-law, Betty Gratta Boswell of Columbia and her brother in law, Max Boswell of El Cajon, California. Her four grandchildren are Charles Evans Boswell, IV (Susan), Lauren Boswell Stevens (Emile), Stephanie Boswell Gray (Andrew), and Judson Michael Boswell II. Her great-grandchildren are Madison Leigh Boswell, Charles Evans Boswell V, Evan Roark Stevens, and Andrew Jason Gray, Jr. She also had nieces and nephews that enriched her life by their love and visits.

Mrs. Boswell was a devoted wife above everything else, an avid golfer, bridge player, as well as a wonderful baker of fudge, cakes, and pies. Her pride and joy were her rose and gardenia gardens. She was happiest having family and friends in her home for dinner parties. She will be missed by all that knew her lively personality.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Wildewood Downs (Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing) and Abby Road Hospice for their loving care.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
