Faye Perteet Spear

A funeral service for Faye Perteet Spear, 91, will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, July 27, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Lykesland, 2712 Trotter Road, Hopkins, SC 29061, with burial in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until noon at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Spear passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023. Born in Winder, Georgia, she was the oldest daughter of the late Mercer and Bertie Perteet. She graduated at the age of 57 from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Nursing.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Belger of West Columbia, SC, Melissa Williams of West Columbia, SC, Michelle Gibson (Alan) of Lexington, SC, Lori Summers (John) of Franklin, TN, Wendy Gooding (Dale) of Lapeer, MI, and son, Christopher Speaks (Joy); 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her 5 brothers, John Jessie, A.J., Mercer Gene, Edsel and Cecil Perteet and her sister Gloria Neal, along with two sons-in-law, Charles Stanley Speaks and Douglas Larry Belger.

Throughout her life Faye worked in a variety of positions however she ended her career working as a RN at Richland Memorial Hospital and retired with 22 years of service. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her children to love the Lord. She was a founding member of First Baptist Church of Lykesland and supported various missionaries independently and through her church affiliation. Faye loved working in her beautiful yard and caring for animals. She ran a cat rescue for many, many years. Faye loved her country and was a military wife. She had a caring, compassionate heart and her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to call home.
