COLUMBIA – Elaine Harrison Gamble, 79, beloved mother of Charles O. Proctor, Jr., Bryan Scott Proctor, and Michele Lynn Proctor, passed away peacefully at the Lexington Hospice House on July 16, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Columbia, SC on March 26, 1944, Elaine was the daughter of the late James C. and Mae West Harrison. She was a 1962 graduate of Old Columbia High School. She followed her passion and attended art school at the University of South Carolina, and later received her degree from DeKalb College in Atlanta. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to her three children. Later in life, she worked for the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, where she retired in 2013.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Mae W. Harrison of Columbia, SC, her daughter, Michele Lynn Proctor, her brother, James C. Harrison, Jr. of Columbia, SC, her sisters, Carol H. Bodie of Leesville, SC, and Patricia H. Campbell of Lexington, SC.
She is survived by her sons, Charles O. Proctor, Jr. (Anna), and Bryan Scott Proctor; grandchildren, Scotty Proctor (Alana), Amanda Proctor, Wyatt Poe, Michele Proctor, and Charles O. Proctor, III; sister-in-law, Jimmilib Harrison; brothers-in-law, Ray Campbell and Wayne Bodie; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, July 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, in Columbia, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. with a reception with lunch after the service at the funeral home.
