Edwin “Bill” McGeachey Smith, 88, passed away on August 22, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Edwin was born February 11, 1931 in Columbia to the late Edwin M. Smith, Sr. and Margie P. Smith. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was an avid golfer and hunter. In his younger days, he was passionate about cars and was employed with Powell’s Garage and later with East Coast Appliance. Edwin also worked alongside his father in their family business, Richland Wholesale Liquor.
Survivors include his sister, Anne Smith; wife, Joan Harper Smith; a son, Mark E. Smith; daughter, Marjan S. Lucas; four grandchildren, Cathryn Lucas, Haley Davis and husband Will, Sarah Specter, Tradd Specter; a great-grandchild, Harper Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Glenlake Parkway NE, South Tower Suite, 400 Atlanta, Georgia 30328 or to a charity of one’s choice.
