COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Edna Frances “Fran” Dudley, 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Fran Dudley died Tuesday, January 2, 2024. She was born on November 8, 1936 in Snow Hill, NC and was the daughter of the late Reverend James D. Young and Ruby Young, of Durham North Carolina. She grew up in Snow Hill, NC.
Following her graduation from Snow Hill High School where she graduated as the Salutatorian of her class, 1954, she attended Goldsboro College and graduated with a degree in Education. A short while after graduation she married Raymond Coleman Dudley, a Concert pianist. They lived in Bloomington Indiana, Lakeland Florida, Cincinnati Ohio and eventually moved to Columbia South Carolina in the summer of 1978 to present day. Throughout that period of time Fran taught elementary school and eventually upon their arrival to Columbia, she began to teach piano lessons to young children of all ages ranging from (5) to (18). She taught for over 30 years and into her retirement years she would often play the organ at various churches. After her husband passed away in December 2004, she stayed active in the local Music Club and attended Northeast Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her son, John David Dudley (Susan); daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Dudley-Rose (Rick); grandchildren, Brittany Dudley Jarrett (Jesse), Robert Matthew Dudley (Bonnie), Zachary Alexander, Benjamin Alexander, Kathryn Alexander Gibson (PJ), and Olivia Faye Dudley; great-grandchildren, Matthew Palmer, Ava Jarrett, Ella Dudley, and Beckham Dudley; brother, Doyne Jackson “Jack” Young (Charlotte); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Coleman Dudley.
