Born in Early Branch, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Nelson Altman and Edna Harvey Altman. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Shuford Woods and her brother Billy Altman.
Dorothy retired as an administrator with the American Red Cross at the US Marine base at Parris Island, SC. She was passionate about helping and supporting many military families at Parris Island. Following retirement, she and her late husband, Harrison, became volunteers with Disaster Services of the American Red Cross helping with Disaster Relief in many locations in the USA. They operated help centers and ran food trucks delivering hot meals to those who had been affected by disasters such as hurricanes, floods and other disasters. Among other volunteer work, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary where she served as an officer. Was a member of the Port Royal Baptist church and after retiring she moved her membership to the Jacksonboro Baptist Church in Jacksonboro, SC. She also attended Kilbourne Park Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. She was an extremely active and social lady. She was a volunteer leading tours of Beaufort and Middleton Place and making flower arrangements for her church. Her treasures were her family, friends and fun activities including square dancing, blue grass music events, playing cards with her friends, traveling and camping. She greatly enjoyed camping in their motorhome. She and Harrison with other RV friends took extended RV trips such as to Alaska and most states within the USA, as well as to Canada and Nova Scotia.
Surviving are her sons, Nelson Woods (Belinda) of Fort Mill, SC; Ray Woods, and Billy Woods (Amanda), both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Angie (Mark), Kipp (Katie), Nick (Kristina), Brandis, Josh (Rachel), Jared, Ryan (Razel), Raysevell, Erina (David), Valerie, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Cade, Easton, Jessie, Andy, Mitchell, Harrison, Avery, Ben, Thomas, Daniel, Ava, Scarlett, Coraline, Henry, and Ethan; and special friends, Jimmy May of Beaufort, SC and Sherry Woods of Barnwell, SC.
