Dorothy Coe Kelley

COLUMBIA - Dorothy Coe Kelley was welcomed into Heaven on November 30, 2017. Memorial services for Mrs. Kelley will be held in Boyce Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Columbia at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 officiated by the Rev. Dennis Banks and Rev. Richard Humphries. A private family burial will take place prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends at a visitation and reception in Ellis Hall, immediately following the memorial service. Mrs. Kelley, affectionately called “Gigi,” was the daughter of John D. and Ola R. Coe. Mrs. Kelley is survived by her loving daughter, Karen Kelley Hall (husband Jerry W. Hall, Jr.); loving son, Stephen Lee Kelley; a sister, Mildred Coe Lide; grandchildren, Christina Rollison Hall, and Jerry W. Hall, III (wife Lisa Cecere Hall); great-grandchildren, Ellie and Kadie Hall; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Kelley was predeceased in 2013 by her loving husband of 63 years, Talley F. Kelley. Mrs. Kelley was born in Wildwood, Florida in 1929. She finished Dreher High School. Mrs. Kelley attended the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Delta Zeta. After marrying Talley F. Kelley, Mrs. Kelley worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Dana C. Mitchell. She also worked and retired from the SC Department of Education Office of Teacher Certification. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and served as President, as well as social chairwoman. A true southern lady, Mrs. Kelley not only loved and adored her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but never met a stranger. Mrs. Kelley was a bona fide Carolina Gamecock fan, who always knew the meaning of “Forever to Thee.” A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Joy of Living Sunday School Class and Oasis, and served as a GA leader and church greeter.
