A long-time resident of Winston Salem NC, she relocated back to Columbia in August of 2021 to be close to family.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband (Bruce Arlington Freeman) and sister (Mary B. Walker).
“Aunt Dot”, as she was lovely known, was independent and strong-minded. She was fiercely self-sufficient managing a mobile home park, cutting grass, and driving while still in her 90’s.
She had a dry wit about her that would make you laugh and smile. When asked several years ago by a doctor as to what type of routine exercise program she maintained; she responded, “if it falls on the floor, I pick it up”.
Surviving are her niece Betty Bouye Hilliard (Billy), great niece/nephew Theresa Hodge (David) and Stan Hilliard, great-great niece/nephew Lauren Reid (Jay) and Dillon Hodge (Courtney), great-great-great nephew/niece Ridge Reid and Ryann Hodge. Five generations of family love.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Winston-Salem, NC at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Lifecare of Columbia for the care they provided, and the friendships made.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia SC 29212
