Doris was educated in Columbia where she met the love of her life, H.R. Duensing, who she eloped with when she was 15! She always laughed reminiscing about slipping out of her window to marry her love. They had two “perfect” sons, Ray and Jim, whom she adored. She was a Dental Hygienist, and worked in Atlanta, where she was president of the Dental Hygiene Society. In Columbia, she worked as a hygienist and later was employed at USC until her retirement.
Doris is survived by her children, H. Ray Duensing and Jimmy Alan Duensing (Shelby); grandchildren, Dee D. Barnes (Rodney), Beth Duensing (Cherrie), Josh Gregory (Stacey), Kati D. Strube (Chris); nine great-grandchildren; her brother, John Henry Strange; and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, H.R.; parents; sisters, Patsy and Johnnie Mae; daughter-in-law, Dale; and her beloved grandson, Brant Duensing.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be a private burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park with a memorial service held at a later date. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a charity of one's choice.
