COLUMBIA Funeral service for Doris Young “Dot” Brown, 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 10220 Garners Ferry Road, Eastover, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Serving as active pallbearers will be Ryan Brown, Charlie Brown, Jr., Taylor Cotton, Les Cotton, Carl Young, David Young, John Young and Tom June. Mrs. Brown died Friday, December 19, 2014, after a short illness. Born January 3, 1924, in Killian, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Charles Young and Mattie Watson Young. She was a lifelong resident of Horrell Hill, S.C. Dot graduated from Lower Richland High School and began her 41 year career at Southern Bell. She was a member of the Primetimers, Circle of Friendship, Lykesland Book Club, Telephone Pioneers, and the Kings Daughters. Mrs. Brown served as a Sunday school teacher at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church for 51 years. Surviving are her son, Charles Earl Brown, his wife, Jackie Cotton Brown; grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Charles E. Jr., and Kathleen Louise “Sissy”; great-grandchildren, Paxton and Phoenix; brothers, Carl Eugene Young (Fay), Dr. Frank W. Young (Melinda); nephews, Carl Eugene Young, Jr. (Ginny), John Young (Mary), David Young, Jr., Todd Young (Megan); nieces, Pam June (Tom), Susan Mann (Mike) and Allison Hyatt (Steve). She was predeceased by her husband, Edison Brown; brothers, Jack, David Glen Young, Sr.; sister, Marjorie; and great-grandchild, Presley Eden. The family would like to thank Providence 4th floor nursing staff and Hospice for their exceptional care and a special thanks to Pastor Drew Martin and Chaplin Karen Diefendorf for their love, care and spiritual support during her illness.
