Deborah Jane Arave

Deborah Jane Arave (71) was called home on Saturday, June 4, 2022 surrounded by her husband and children. She was born the youngest of two to John and Lorena “Jo” Sherman in 1950 and was raised in North Augusta, SC.

While stopping for gas in 1972, she met the love of her life, Dan Arave, who worked at the local service station. Instantly they fell in love and began a fifty year romance that included raising five children together. Later in life, she returned to school completing her undergraduate and Master’s degrees with high honors and became a professional counselor. She opened her own counseling practice, and also worked with the V.A. to help veterans suffering from PTSD. She loved to garden and grow different varieties of flowers and trees in her backyard.

Known for her strength and determination, Jane was a breast cancer survivor. She was incredibly kind and generous, always putting others first above herself. She loved big and gave the best hugs.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Danny J. Arave, Sr. and five children Danny Jr., Jeremy (Margaret), Lory (Hampton), Cody (Kayla), Sarah Kelly (Sam), and sixteen grandchildren.

Friends and loved ones are invited to gather for a reception at 2 p.m. on Saturday June 11, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home (4219 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29229).
