COLUMBIA - Local artist Daphne Delor Turquin Wilson, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Columbia on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Patterson Wilson and Mary King Wilson Macidull. Survivors include her loving daughter, Heather Noelle DeBruhl; sisters, Frances Wilson Kindall, Joan Carolyn Macidull, Madeline King Leigh; and brothers, William Boyd Macidull and John Charles Macidull. Daphne was passionate about the arts, with special talents in painting, sculpture, jewelry design, poetry and drama. She was active in the Trenholm Artists Guild and worked in the South Carolina school system as a teacher, at the University of South Carolina Registrar’s office, and at the Art Institute of San Francisco. Daphne had a kind heart and loved to help those less fortunate than herself. An excerpt from Ms. Wilson’s poem The Door: She walked onto a sunbeam And left the sandy shore, She left the sky and sea And mountains high and cold And tripped upon a moment And sailed along with souls. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
