IRMO - Graveside services for Clarence O. “C.O.” Hipp, Sr., 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel at the mausoleum. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 520 Gervais Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.
Mr. Hipp died September 16, 2011. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1926 to the late Clarence Alexander Hipp and Sadie Hoover Hipp. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin, South Carolina.
Mr. Hipp was a Vice-President and partner in Crawford Sprinkler Company of S.C. and was very active in the American Fire Sprinkler Association. He was made a life time member of the North Carolina and South Carolina Charter of the American Fire Sprinkler Association. He had received the prestigious Cal Morrow Award for his service in the Carolina Chapter, and a scholarship was made in his name by the South Carolina Fire Sprinkler Association. Mr. Hipp served in the Navy during World War II. He saw active duty in the Pacific aboard the USS Vega (AK17) and was in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mr. Hipp is survived by his lovely wife of 63 years, Mildred M. “Millie” Hipp; daughter, Susan H. Newman; sons, Clarence O. “Chuck” Hipp, Jr. (Eve), Mark E Hipp (Trisha), seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mr. Hipp was predeceased by a son, Patrick A. Hipp.
