Christopher Landis Bates

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Christopher “Chris” Landis Bates, 21, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4 until 5:00 p.m. prior to the service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Chris died Thursday, October 22, 2015. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Steven James Bates and Donna Leigh Landis Bates. He was a 2012 graduate of AC Flora High School and currently attended the College of Charleston as a senior. Chris was a member of the 2012 AC Flora Baseball Team State Champions and College of Charleston’s Ultimate Frisbee team. He enjoyed playing baseball while studying at USC Salkehatchie. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Justin Bates of the home; paternal grandmother, Barbara Frost Bates; maternal grandparents, James Edward Ferqueron and Guilda Templeton Ferqueron; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a paternal grandfather, Edwin Jack Bates and maternal grandfather, Gerald William Landis, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Doctors Without Borders, 333 Seventh Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001 or Habitat for Humanity, 209 South Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
